After choosing not to hold a press conference at the last two E3 conventions, Square Enix will be returning this year and if it’s anything like their conference in 2015 then I’d say we’re in for some interesting reveals, fun demoes, and delightfully awkward moments.
Jumping right in to our final E3 2018 Preview, let’s take a look at what we might see during Square Enix’s E3 presser.
Kingdom Hearts III
After being announced in 2013, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Kingdom Hearts III and it looks like they won’t be waiting much longer. We’ve seen some worlds already, such as Toy Story and Monsters Inc. and it’s possible we might get another at E3 this year where the game will be playable for attendees.
I’m sure it’ll also pop up in Square Enix’s presser, where we’re bound to get some additional information on the game. Personally, I’m hoping Square Enix provide fans with a definitive release date that to look forward to.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
It was just a few months ago where we were treated with our first look at Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and already we’re only a couple of months away from being able to get our hands on it.
Instead of Crystal Dynamics developing the game, the game is primarily developed by Eidos Montreal, who previously worked on Deus Ex and Thief. We haven’t seen much of the game, but the brief information that has been revealed definitely seems interesting and with the game currently scheduled to release in September, I’d hedge my bets on a massive coverage blowout at E3 to pique the interest of gamers.
We’re just a few months out from the release of Octopath Traveler, and I’d love to get a couple of extra pieces of information about the game before then. Thankfully, with E3 only a few weeks beforehand, Square Enix have the perfect platform to do so.
E3 allows for one final in-depth look at the game that a wide audience will be exposed to, and I think Square Enix will want to take full advantage of this. Don’t be surprised if we get one more trailer for the game during their conference.
In January of last year, Marvel revealed that they had partnered up with Square Enix to develop multiple videogames that utilise Marvel properties. The first of these is a game centred around The Avengers.
Since its initial announcement, we haven’t heard anything official about the game, but job listings have suggested that it will be an online third-person action adventure game. With the game having been in development for at least a year now, I think it’s possible that Square Enix will treat viewers with a proper reveal trailer that explains what the game will really be about.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
While we haven’t been waiting as long as Kingdom Hearts III, it’s been quite some time since the remake of Final Fantasy VII was announced.
Initially revealed during Sony’s E3 presser in 2015, we’ve been gifted with some bite sized pieces of information and images here and there, but we’ve yet to see anything substantial. Could we finally get this during Square Enix’s E3 conference? With the game expected to release in multiple parts it would be nice to get an idea of when we’ll be able to get our hands on them.
Square Enix have a lot of projects in the pipeline at the moment, much more than what’s been discussed here. I’m sure we’ll see a wealth of new information for these projects during their presser, and let’s not forget about potential announcements of new games as well. Remember that Marvel deal was for multiple games, who’s to say we won’t get details on the next one? We’ll have to wait and see when Square Enix’s conference airs on June 11.
