Activision has confirmed that the next Call of Duty game is still on track to release this year.
In their Q2 earnings call, Activision President Rob Kostich also revealed that two of their key studios would be working on the game.
“Activision will continue to build on its direct digital relationship with this expanded community as it delivers the next premium instalment for Call of Duty, which comes from the wholly-owned Call of Duty studios Treyarch and Raven Software,” said Kostich. “The game looks incredible right now, and internally, people are having a ton of fun playing across its campaign mode as well as the online modes that the developers are very well known for. And so, all I can say in terms of timing is I suspect you’ll be hearing more about this fairly soon.”
This marks the first time Activision has mentioned the development teams working on the game. Treyarch has been a key developer on the series for quite some time, initially developing Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War before creating the Black Ops series. Raven Entertainment has been a support studio for multiple titles in the past, so seeing them assist here makes sense.
Activision didn’t mention when we’d get a reveal for the game, but Rob Kostich said it shouldn’t be too long now. According to some recent leaks, the game will apparently be titled “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”
The next Call of Duty will be available later this year. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as more details are available.
