With every iteration of Super Smash Bros., fans go wild with anticipation as new details emerge while the game moves closer and closer to release. The release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is continuing this trend, and for good reason.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is going to feature every fighter that has appeared in the series, as well as a few new ones. So far, we’ve seen the Inklings from Splatoon and Ridley from the Metroid series. We’re not sure if we’ll see any more, but either way fans have been brainstorming and dreaming of potential characters that they’d like to see in the game.
With that being said, here are five characters that we think would be well suited for an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Spring Man (Arms)
Arms is a new IP from Nintendo, and from what we know it has been pretty successful so far. Because of this, it’d make sense that they’d include a character from the game to promote the series while also showing that it’s here to stay.
There are a few characters that seem to have a chance at being included, but I figured Spring Man would be most likely due to being on the cover art as well as the first character that was initially shown off prior to Arms’ release.
King K.Rool (Donkey Kong Country)
When I was putting this list together, I originally had Dixie Kong listed as a potential newcomer. However, I figured if another Donkey Kong character were to be added, a villain from the series would spice things up a bit.
That’s where King K.Rool comes in. We haven’t seen him much since Donkey Kong 64, but he’s remained popular among fans of the series. He’s one of the potential costumes for the Mii Fighters, but I think he’d fit right in as a member of the character roster.
Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo’s most popular IPs, so I think it’d make sense for the series to receive some more representation. I had a hard time deciding between Isabelle or Tom Nook, and to be honest I think both of them would be a good fit.
This time around, I chose to go with Isabelle simply because she seems to be the more popular character out of the two, and she’s already made a guest appearance in Mario Kart 8.
Captain Toad (Captain Toad’s Treasure Tracker)
While not always playing a major role, Toad is always around in just about every Mario title. Because of this, I’m a little surprised that Toad isn’t as prevalent in the Super Smash Bros. series as he is everywhere else. Sure, he’s a part of Peach (and now Daisy’s) moveset, but outside of that Toad isn’t really around.
With Captain Toad getting his own game on the Nintendo Wii U, and with it now coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS, I think it’s possible that he’ll get his very own character slot in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later this year.
Banjo & Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie)
Of all the guest appearances, Banjo & Kazooie are the ones that I want to see most. Banjo & Kazooie already have a history with the Nintendo brand. As many would know, they originally debuted on the system, appearing first in Diddy Kong Racing before getting two of their own titles, both of which were fantastic.
The Banjo-Kazooie IP is owned by Microsoft now, but they’ve expressed interest in having the characters appear should Nintendo wish to include them. As a massive fan of the bear and bird, I hope they make an appearance.
