Bungie has recently confirmed that Destiny 2‘s file size will be shrunk significantly when the Beyond Light expansion launches next month.
Detailed in the latest weekly update, the file size of Destiny 2 will reportedly be reduced by 30-40%. This will result in the games install size sitting between 59 and 71GB (depending on platform).
Bungie discussed the reason for the reduction in size, pointing to “a combination of culling unused or replaced content, install size optimisations, and moving some content to the Destiny Content Vault.”
Unfortunately, it was also announced that the release of the Beyond Light expansion would require a complete re-download of the game, which is sure to frustrate fans with a slow or metered connection. Bungie has advised that a pre-load will be available on November 9, so fans have time to pre-load before launch.
Destiny 2 Beyond Light launches on Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 10. It will also be available on PlayStation 5 from November 12.
