Fortnite has been removed from Apple’s App Store overnight with Google Play store following soon after, it has been confirmed.
The removal comes as a result of Epic Games implementing a method to avoid Apple’s 30% cut of store sales. Ultimately, this was the same reason the game was removed from the Google Play store not long afterwards.
Epic has since taken Apple to court over the removal however, some are speculating that this is a pre-planned attack by Epic Games for Apple’s App Store restrictions. Shortly after the game was removed, Epic shared the below parody on Apple’s “1984” ad accompanied by the #FreeFortnite hashtag.
Obviously, one can’t produce a video like that in such a small amount of time. Could this be a play on Epic’s part to put pressure on Apple for their policies? Whatever the reason, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the situation as more news becomes available.
